Years Serving

Built on a promise:
no one faces crisis alone

In 1965, a group of concerned citizens in the Fork Union community of Palmyra, Virginia, recognized that rural emergency response was a matter of life and death. With nothing but determination and a borrowed vehicle, they formed the Fork Union Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Today, we are a fully equipped, professionally staffed volunteer organization serving the greater Fork Union and Palmyra area. Our team of over 100 volunteers responds to hundreds of calls each year — from cardiac arrests and motor vehicle collisions to water rescues and hazardous material incidents.

We are not a government agency. We are your neighbors — teachers, farmers, tradespeople, and retirees — who choose to give their time, their training, and their lives to the mission of keeping this community safe.
